Meaning Making Machine #4

In the last experiment it is image and image that is constructed on the screen as a visual statement. The subject image is on the left side of the framing; a self contained entity photographed on a white backdrop. This depiction represents the subject as a singular essence that is stable in space. What constituted the set of these subjects is the things I had around the house…. The sample of elements ranged from household and scientific equipment, to tools and cowboy hats, to religious and political icons.

The predicate images on frame right (the right side of the frame) constitutes a text, a visual diary of a bus trip to New York City. Yet the events of that day are randomized, re-contextualizing their relationship to the subjects, the narrative and to reality. When the two sets of images are taken together there is a wide range of metaphorical meaning that can be perceived.
